Sewing A Vest...
![]()
One of the easiest pieces of clothing to sew is a vest. My little cutie Katie needed one go with a pair of pants I had already made for her.

There are really only three parts to a vest. If you add a pocket, button loop and tie backs, you have six parts. Look, I am still using my strawberry pin cushion. It is my favorite pin cushion to use now.

After I put on the pocket and button loop, I sewed the vest sides to the back of both the lining and the front of the vest. Pretty easy so far. No overcasting needed so far...

After I sewed the two parts together, I had to turn them right side out. All the seams were pressed and then I had to figure out how to close the open seams.

I sewed the lining seam and pressed it open.

I turned it over and the seam looked good. Then I flipped it back over and pressed under a 1/4 inch of the outer fabric and then folded it over again and sewed it in place. I know this is not the way that the pattern was written, but doing a slip stitch isn't a very good idea for me. I know that it wont hold in the wash. My slip stitching isn't so good...

The back of the vest has the cutest little ties. I love them knotted together.

I used a lace ribbon for the loop instead of sewing one out of fabric. Much easier and looks great with the button.

I once again called Katie upstairs to try on her new piece of clothing. She just happened to be wearing the pants that match it...

It fits! What a great little model. I really enjoy making clothes for all of the kids, but right now she is the major recipient. All of my patterns are in her size so that probably has something to do with it....
