Ishbel Beret

February's knitting goal turned out to be March's finished project. I completed the Ishbel Beret to go along with the fancy Ishbel scarf!

First of all, I would to introduce you to my new best friend, Giselda. I asked for a dress form for my birthday too and I found one on Ebay for not too much money. The kids and I have been having a lot of fun teasing each other about her...

Last month I had been so excited about making the Dream in Color Shrug that I got a late start on the next project in the book Whimsical Little Knits. The next project in the booklet was the Ishbel Beret. Perfect to go along with the scarf that I made in January.

The beginning of the project had a new challenge for me. The cast-on edge was a provisional cast-on and I hadn't ever done that before. I had to try twice before I got it right. I loved the finished edge made by a simple purl row.

On the inside of the beret the band made a really pretty finish too. That was another new step for me as well. Having made the scarf already, making the vine pattern was a lot easier the second time around.

Here is a close up of the completed beret. The vine pattern turned out so nice.

Both the scarf and beret look great together. I realize that I will not get to wear them much this year, but next year they might come in handy...

It is too bad that it doesn't actually fit me though. I think I will try stretching it over a larger plate and see if that helps. If not, I do have more yarn and I think I will try again. It is too nice to give up already. By the way, I was able to make both the scarf and hat from one skein. That leaves me with a whole skein to work with! I could make another hat, or I could actually use it to make socks...
