I love to make homemade spaghetti sauce more than almost anything else. Well, maybe I like to make cookies more than anything, but that is not what I made for dinner last night.

Spaghetti Ingredients

I found a really simple way to make sauce for the Spaghetti which my family absolutely loves. It is better than any jar of sauce you can buy. So here are the list of ingredients:

♦ 5 or 6 mild Italian Sausage links

♦ half of an onion, chopped

♦ 2 cans of Tomato Sauce

♦ 1 can Diced Tomatoes

♦ 2 tablespoons olive oil

♦ 1 garlic clove, chopped

♦ 1/4 teaspoon each oregano and basil

Onions and Sausage

The sausage has to be removed from the casings into a heavy pan, like a dutch oven. Begin browning the sausage and after a few minutes you can add the chopped onion and garlic. The heat should be set to medium while cooking the sausage and onion mixture. When all is browned you can begin adding the rest of the ingredients.

Diced Tomatoes

Pour in the can of diced tomatoes.

Pour in Sauce

Pour in the 2 cans of tomato sauce. Isn't it fun to watch it pour in?

V8

I just remembered that I also like to add a half a cup of V8 juice to the sauce. I like the flavor of all those vegetables added to it.

Add Herbs in Sauce

Add the oregano and basil and any salt that you want to add. Give it a good stir and then cover and simmer for about five hours. Seriously, five hours...

Finished Sauce

Okay, now that the sauce is done simmering, I can see how the color has darkened and the flavor is also going to have a richness that wasn't there in the beginning.

Boiling Spaghetti

You didn't think I was going to forget the pasta, did you? I like to add olive oil and salt to the pasta while it is cooking so that they wont stick together as much.

I really hope that you all enjoyed watching the cooking channel with me today. It was a lot of fun. I think there is something missing from this plate though...

adding cheese to spaghetti

That is what was missing, cheese. I can't wait to eat this all up.
