yellow brick road quilt pattern

The yellow brick road pattern was so easy that I just had to try it again. The second time I try any pattern is always easier so this went pretty quickly...

three kinds of blocks

This time I made a lap sized quilt which means that the setting will be 5 x 7. There are three different blocks and I had quite a stack of them...

quilt block One

After all of the strips have been sewn together and cut and sewn together again I ended up with 24 blocks in this pattern...

quilt block two

Twelve blocks in this pattern...

quilt block three

And twelve quilt blocks in this pattern. Wild color choices, huh? I bought these fabrics on a whim last summer and figured it was time to use them. I know, you never do that, do you?

setting the quilt blocks

The instructions provide you with an example of how to place each block, turning this way and that way. The only problem is that they can't possibly know what kind of fabric I used so it is virtually impossible not to have two of the same fabrics touching each other. The trick is to try and set them so that there aren't any seams lining up with each other because they are all facing the same way. I think that this looks just fine...

sewing quilt rows together

After I sewed the blocks together I was sew excited to sew the rows together. I couldn't stop myself, I had to put them all together.

pinning the seams to align

I am usually really confident that my seams will be aligned and don't bother to pin both seams anymore.

show pinned seam on other side

When I pin the seams they are flat and I don't feel any gaps. This is going to go together perfectly, right?

time to sew quilt rows

All of my seams are pinned together and I am ready to sew. This one time out of a hundred times sewing rows together, guess what happened? My blocks were not perfectly aligned on three of the seams. I learned my lesson and pinned both sides of the seam flat and after that I didn't have any problems. All of the seams were great and I am so glad that I learned my lesson!

quilt top almost complete

Late last night I finished sewing the quilt top together. This morning I had to see it again and laid it out next to our cat Daisy. She wouldn't move an inch, I think she has claimed her territory. I have 5 blocks left and I still need to put on the borders. Wouldn't you know it, I don't have any more of this fabric or anything else in my stash that will work.

daisy likes the quilt

I think Daisy thinks this quilt is for her. Truth be told, I don't have a home for this quilt. I am not quite sure who would appreciate these colors. I am afraid that if I gave this quilt to someone they would be offended. Would you be offended by receiving this quilt? In the meantime, I have a good quilting companion. I love my cat...
