Getting Ready to Quilt...
![]()
It is harrowing process pinning a quilt top, batting, and backing together. I almost didn't make it out alive.

I finally found two pieces of fabric that I could piece together for the back of this quilt. I laid the top of the quilt on top and only had to trim a little off the top and bottom. Then I took the top off and taped the corners of the backing to the floor to keep it in place.

Becca watches to make sure that I get it right. I'm glad that she is taking such an intense interest in the making of a quilt.

Then I laid the batting on top of the batting and smoothed it down the best I could. Honestly, what am I going to do when I'm too old to do this on the floor? Or maybe the secret is, quilting will keep me young forever!

This is my favorite kind of batting for now. I always used 100% cotton batting before. When I tried this kind it really was a dream. No more bumpy cotton seeds to push through.

Then I placed the top on top of the batting to create the sandwich. Interesting how quilters come up with food names for this process. Maybe they were wishing they had a sandwich while they were trying to put it together on the floor.

After I smoothed the quilt top as much as possible the pinning began. I try to put as many pins in the corners as I can. I don't bother to close the pins, it creates a lot of work and wear and tear on the fabric. I hardly ever get stuck in the arm by one of them.

Becca felt she had the need to walk across the quilt. When I gave her a hard time her only response was, "I have the right to walk across my future quilt." Where does she learn to talk like that?

When I am done pinning all of the pins that I own into this quilt, I'm faced with a sea of sharp pointy things. Then I just rolled it up like a rug and tossed it aside where it will wait until I am ready to quilt it. I can't wait to get started. It is going to be so pretty when it is completed.
