Ishbel

This month I started making a very Fancy scarf from a pattern called "Ishbel" by Ysolda Teague. The pattern comes from a book called Whimsical Little Knits...

The booklet can be purchased from Ravlery.com or from Ysolda. I bought both the book and the download. Both are worth having in my opinion because it is nice to print out the charts, and have an actual book to drool over.

This is the scarf worn by Ysolda. The pattern can be made larger and then worn as a shawl. I think you all know me well enough now to know that there is no way I have the patience to wait for a shawl...

The yarn I chose for this project is called Dream in Color Smooshy, Blue Lagoon. This is a sock yarn, but I like how it worked out for this scarf. The yarn had a nice variegated pattern and had good stitch definition. The first part of the pattern was fairly simple, but I have to admit that I was intimidated all the same.

I can't tell you how many times I messed up and had to find my way back again while knitting the stitch pattern. I could not watch any movies and could hardly listen to my favorite podcasts. My children couldn't even talk to me. This was a good challenge for my knitting progress. It was time to step up and try something new. That is my goal for the year. I am planning on making one project from this book every month. Not only will I have many beautiful finished knits, but I will have learned some new skills.

wet blocking

When I finished the scarf, the pattern said to wet block it. I have never wet blocked anything so I got out my handy dandy knitting illustrated book. It turned out that it wasn't so difficult. Another new knitting thing learned for the year...

This is what it looked like half blocked. You can see why it needs to be blocked. The finished result wouldn't be anywhere near as beautiful.

I bet you all thought I wouldn't model it, didn't you? Well, I couldn't wait to wear it and I don't mind having my picture taken either!

It turns out, I am not the only one that wanted to have a picture taken with this scarf...

Happy Knitting! Try something new...
