Thick Warm Socks...
![]()
The weather outside has been frightful. When faced with negative temperatures, knitting warm wool socks is the best way to face such dangers...

Two days before Christmas, the temperature had dropped severely, -27 F to be exact. The only thing I could think to do was start knitting thick worsted weight socks.

I did a search on Ravelry and came across the H sock pattern in the 2 At A Time sock book. One of the great things about Ravelry is the ability to see a pattern knit in many different kinds of yarn. With this pattern, yarn choice really makes the difference. I chose Dream in Color Classy in Butter Peeps.

The body of the sock went pretty quickly with this worsted weight yarn. It took about half the time that sock weight yarn takes. This helps give immediate gratification...

I finished the first one while we were visiting Robert's Dad Clyde in Ames, IA. For some reason I always forget to bring a tapestry needle and can't close up the toe until we get home.

As all good knitters do, I brought my knitting bag with me when we went to Florida. I started working on the second sock while knitting with friends in Vero Beach. I continued working on it back at the hotel and finished it when we got home.

I had never blocked a sock before and thought I would give it a try. For those of my friends that are not knitters, that means I got the socks wet, ran them through the spin cycle in the washing machine, and put them onto these sock blanks to let them dry.

This looks crazy, doesn't it...
The really crazy thing is, after I took them off of the sock blanks, they looked so pretty that I couldn't wear them. They are sitting nicely folded in my sock drawer. I wonder how cold my feet will have to become before I will put them on...
